Family Fun Night Assembly - Tuesday, March 23rd!
Join us for the "Reading In Rhythm" assembly presented by crowd favorite educator Phil Tulga. Get ready to move on this one! "Reading in Rhythm" begins with an entertaining exploration of the rhythms of language through shared reading, hand and body movements, and a variety of Caribbean, African and Latin American instruments. Next, the students make their own rain sticks, talking tubes, and guiros, and then join together for a concert of reading, rhythm and movement. This event is sponsored by PTA and is free and open to all families of Silva Valley School.
Tuesday, March 23rd from 6:30 -- 8:00 p.m. in the Silva Valley School Gym
Assemblies for the children during the school
day:
- Tuesday, March 23rd: Phil
Tulga's "Reading Fluency & Singing". Fluent
reading sounds like talking. This simple principle is at
the core of the Reading Fluency and Singing
presentation. Through the use of familiar rhymes,
historical speeches, and songs, students are engaged in
an entertaining model of fluent reading.
- Monday, April 26th: "Journey
through the Human Body" presented by the
Explorit Science Center of Davis. A presentation of 4
body systems: skin, lungs, heart, & digestion. Student
volunteers will assist with demonstrations.
- Monday, May 3rd: "The
Bullying Game". Students participate in a
high-energy game show like "Family Feud." Topics
include: what to do when confronted by a bully, why
teasing is hurtful, and when to ask for help.
